As most people know, I’m a vintage handbag girl. I rarely buy/use newer bags. However, several months ago, I saw a girl in a local coffee shop with the most beautiful bag I’d seen in a while. I wanted to ask her about it, but before I could talk to her…she was gone! Several weeks later, I saw a post on Facebook with the bag in the background of the photo. I tracked the person down and was told that it was a Whipping Post Vintage Tote.
I immediately purchased one for myself and it was immediate love! Whipping Post uses vegetable-tanned leathers that are thick and sturdy yet soft and supple and smell like a new saddle! The Vintage Tote is unlined, reminiscent of the classic bags from the 70’s that we all still love and covet!
Soon after receiving my new bag, I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan Barr, owner of Whipping Post, and maker of my new favorite bag! I, of course, had to get the low down on the company.
WP got started when I was making a guitar strap for my old guitar some years back in my apartment in Atlanta. Anyways, a few years later we’ve branched out to other goods and now I’m based out of NYC (followed a gal :)). Love what I do and couldn’t be happier.
Any pics of the first strap?
No, Sadly I don’t have a photo of the first strap. (its not much to look at anyways :))
The Allman Brothers are my favorite and I wanted to make stuff that had a rugged appeal that would stand up to abuse (sort of like a Whipping Post :))
The black tote should be out within 2 weeks.
Two Weeks!!! Put me on the waiting list!
Ha! Will do!
Yes, I plan on making more female-focused products
This bag is truly a keeper and will quickly become your go-to bag. I’ve taken this bag everywhere from the rodeo to art openings! With it’s large, open interior,
I’ve carried a fluffy sweater, large bottle of water, umbrella, planner / wallet, and a change of clothes for my little one with room to spare! It’s a work horse of a bag that is built to last for many many years! Mine has already been my near constant companion and I have no intentions of that ending anytime soon!
